Jan Helbing

Jan Helbing, born 1968, successfully completed an apprenticeship as tax assistant after he graduated from high school. Subsequently he studied law at the University of Hamburg with focus in tax laws. As trainee lawyer Mr. Helbing worked inter alia in the legal department at the tax office in Itzehoe / Germany dealing with appeals, and for the tax auditors department . In 2002 Mr. Helbing was admitted to the German Bar.

After his first employment Mr. Helbing became partner of Gerken lawyers in 2004. He is specialised in tax laws, banking and capital market laws.

Mr. Helbing has many years of professional experience in litigation, in particular in matters of tax adviser liabilities, and in banking law, especially in the areas of open and closed funds and investments and in liability claims concerning information contained in prospectus.

In tax matters Mr. Helbing deals with appeals against tax offices and claims at Fiscal Courts.

Mr. Helbing is member of the Associations of tax law and capital market law.
